Long time veterans of North Knife Lake Lodge, John Snodsmith and Jerry Erickson continue to rack up the Master Angler trophies while on their annual pilgrimage to monster fish heaven. These guys have caught thousands of Northern Pike and Lake Trout on North Knife Lake, yet they still get as excited over every fish as if it was their first, especially Jerry "The Pike Slayer" Erickson. "Trout Master" John has lost count of the Trophy Lakers he’s boated over the years but can always be "talked" into another. He landed a 40" "hawg" on the first morning out. Not to be outdone, Jerry followed up with a 42" Northern Pike. Nice going guys!

Fishing and romance do go together!
Who says fishing trips and romance don’t go together? There were numerous happy couples fishing at North Knife Lake Lodge this summer. And as you can see from the photos below, the gals caught as many big fish as the guys – but still love flourished! Mix zero stress with spectacular scenery, gourmet meals and monster fish and, well, it just seems to work wonders.
First Arctic Grayling for Nina
At the 2007 Arctic Grayling flyout trip to South Knife River, we experienced untouched wilderness, spectacular scenery and great fly fishing on a river you could drink from.
We caught over 30 Arctic Grayling including five Master Anglers - one that matched the largest caught in Manitoba waters in 2006 – 20 1/2 inches!
In this photo, Nina, a nurse from Winnipeg who travelled to North Knife Lake with her husband George, is all smiles as she holds her first ever Arctic Grayling, caught on 4-pound test using the tiniest of flys!
The fly-fishing experience of a lifetime!
Monster Northern Pike on a Fly
There’s nothing better that watching a giant Northern Pike swoosh through the weeds and attack your fly right after it hits the water.
In this case it was a 44-inch monster that probably weighed in at over 28 pounds. There were numerous other trophy pike caught that day but you just know we never got tired of catching them.
What was it like fly fishing for lunker northern pike on a gorgeous spring day in the wilderness? Check out those sunny smiles. It just doesn’t get any better.
